# One Wuhan bell produces two notes

The Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge carries cars above trains. A bell from the tomb of Marquis Yi produces different notes when struck on its face and side. Chi Li wrote Jiqing Street’s song requests and duck-neck stalls into her novel Life Show, while Wuhan residents once chose the revolving restaurant in Guishan TV Tower for birthdays and dates.

48 stories are available in the app.

### Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge: Road and Rail Stack Across the Yangtze

Cars run above trains while one set of piers carries both systems.

Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge opened in 1957 with road traffic above and rail below. The two modes share the crossing and piers but operate at different grades, speeds, and safety conditions. From the Guishan side, local road movement and the national railroad network occupy one structure without mixing.

### Hubei Provincial Museum: One Bell Can Sound Two Notes

Strike front and side, and the flattened bell vibrates in two different ways.

A round bell tends to ring broadly in every direction; early Chinese ritual bells often used a flattened closed-tile section. Striking the front and side excites different vibration modes, producing two notes a third apart. The 65 bells of Marquis Yi of Zeng also carry pitch inscriptions, joining text, shape, and acoustics on a three-tier frame.

### Jiqing Street: Life Show Wrote the Night Market into a Novel

Chi Li gave Jiqing Street's late-night food, song requests, and duck-neck stalls a second life in Life Show.

Chi Li's Life Show turned Jiqing Street into the nocturnal workplace where Lai Shuangyang keeps her food stall alive. The story later became a film, television series, and stage play. Its world borrows the real street's requested songs, late suppers, and tableside performers, then rearranges the people and their fates. Today's rebuilt Jiqing Street gives more room to long-running food businesses, heritage stalls, and festival shows; it is no longer the all-night street of the book. Sit at a table, though, and fiction and reality still share the same intimate distance from the performers.

### Guishan TV Tower: Wuhan once celebrated birthdays up the TV tower

Families cut cake in the revolving restaurant as the three towns passed the windows.

After Guishan TV Tower opened in 1986, elevators carried Wuhan residents to its revolving restaurant and observation level. The three towns had far fewer high-rises then. As the tables turned, the Yangtze, the Han, and the rooftops moved past the windows. Families brought birthday cakes and candles; couples treated a date up the tower as a major occasion. When it briefly reopened in 2008, one visitor arrived on the first day specifically to celebrate a friend's birthday. A broadcast tower doubled as Wuhan's party venue.
