The first night of 'Teen Spirit'
Nirvana first played its defining song on this small stage in 1991.
On April 17, 1991, Nirvana played 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' live for the first time on the OK Hotel's small waterfront stage. Five months later, the song broke worldwide and moved from Seattle rooms into a decade's soundtrack. The venue closed after damage in the 2001 earthquake and is now artists' housing. One ordinary Wednesday night here held a song before anyone knew what it would become.
